About Project Route
Project ROUTE is a national programme from Digdata and ITS UK, created to introduce young people to the exciting world of transport, data and digital careers.

Transport affects almost every part of our lives — from getting to school and work and moving goods, to connecting communities and creating a more sustainable future.

From predicting congestion and planning rail services to autonomous vehicles, smart infrastructure and artificial intelligence, transport is changing fast. The industry needs people with a wide range of skills, interests and ideas.

Project Route Step Up Career Challenge Live Event
Can We Trust the Ride? When Autonomous Vehicles Take the Drive
Work with a transport planning team and use data to investigate how well an autonomous vehicle performs. You will:
- Join a live 45-minute briefing with the Project ROUTE team
- Choose an Excel, Data Science or GIS career challenge to complete at your own pace
- Receive a certificate when you complete the challenge
Project Route Data Futures Event – ‘Meet our Transport Apprentices’
Discover how an apprenticeship could help you start a career in transport. Meet transport apprentices to hear about their experiences, the skills they are developing and why they chose this pathway. You will:
- Discover how apprenticeships combine paid work and study, helping you gain qualifications and practical experience
- Hear directly from transport apprentices about their roles, everyday projects, and what they enjoy about their work
- Explore different apprenticeship pathways and pick up advice on finding opportunities, preparing applications, and taking your first steps into transport

Discover how your degree, skills and interests could lead to a career in transport. Meet transport graduates to hear about their journeys from university into work and the opportunities they have discovered. You will:
- Discover how subjects from maths and geography to humanities and the arts can lead to graduate careers in transport
- Hear directly from transport graduates about their roles, everyday projects, and the skills they use in their work
- Explore placements and graduate programmes, with practical advice on gaining experience, preparing applications, and making the transition into employment
